Changing My Fitness Routine

Hi everyone! How have you all been?image
I know it's been a pretty long time since I've last updated this blog. If you've been a long time follower of mine you probably already know my textbook excuses: school, busy with life, stress, etc. At the moment I've been more focused on making videos for my Youtube channel just because I've been doing my best at updating my channel more and because I am a finalist for Style Korean's K-Beauty Gurus competition! I've made it to the top 16!!! It's pretty crazy and I truly didn't think I would make it this far but I'm extremely grateful for the opportunity and for all of my followers and friends for voting for me. image I'll try my best to continue working hard! I highly doubt I'll make it past this next round because everyone is bigger than me but it won't change my effort.

Anyways, time to talk about the reason why you clicked onto this post.

It's been a while since I last updated about my fitness journey and whatnot. I made a full video on my channel because I lost even more weight than after my last blog post. Since the video, my weight kind of fluctuated because I was getting stronger and gaining more muscles since I enrolled into a gym. My plan to enroll at the gym was to tone up and increase my strength. While my strength has increased, I haven't seen any results in toning up my body. In fact, my body has actually been getting thicker which I personally do not want. Some people workout for athletic reasons which is what I've been doing but what I actually wanted was to workout for aesthetic reasons.

Because of that, I will be changing my fitness routine and my diet! I'll go in-depth in this post about what I did wrong and what I'm going to change.

What I did wrong:

1. Working out abs everyday
I think there's a misconception that working out abs will make your waist slimmer. I definitely thought that way... What happened was that I was doing ab workouts everyday. I didn't do many weighted ab workouts other than medicine ball twists but because of the excessive workouts I was doing, it was making my waist thick by building up my oblique muscles.

2. Unhealthy diet
Not that I ate super unhealthy foods but I did start snacking again on chips and candy. I did break my "no soda" rule while I was in Korea just because it tasted so good but I have gone back to just drinking water since I've came back home. 
Something also contributing to my bad diet is I've started working at a poke and sushi place and sushi is my weakness. I buy sushi burritos every time I finish my shift just because the food is sooo good! But you know what they have? Lots of CALORIES and CARBS. And because I dip it in tons of spicy mayo, it's a lot of FAT. So even though it has lots of protein, all the other stuff makes it super bad for you and has been contributing to my thighs getting bigger which has always been my least favorite part of my body.
3. Sleep deprivation
My sleeping schedule has been fucked for a while now lol honestly, there's not much I can do about that because of school and work taking up a lot of my time so I have to stay up all night doing homework and study so yeah, can't change much about that.

My old routine:

Leg day (10 reps/3 sets unless stated otherwise):
  • Squats
  • Leg press
  • Thigh abduction & adduction (50 each)
  • Calf raises
  • Leg extensions
  • Leg curls
  • Cardio: stairmaster

Biceps/Back:
  • Bicep curls on cables
  • Bicep preacher curls
  • Back extension
  • Rows
  • Bicep assisted pull up
  • Cardio: treadmill

Chest/Triceps:
  • Butterfly chest
  • Chest press
  • Tricep assisted dips
  • Dip machine
  • Cardio: treadmill

Abs (everyday!):
  • 20 sit ups
  • 20 leg raises
  • 20 criss cross
  • 20-30 medicine ball
  • 20 boat pose crunches
  • 20 oblique crunches
  • 20 side planks
  • 30-60 sec plank
New routine:
It'll be roughly the same except I won't be doing abs everyday. In fact, I'm going to stop working out abs all together. I have a decent core already but all that really needs to change is my diet to get rid of the fat there.
From doing research, it seems as though bikini models or competitors don't work out abs because it keeps their waist slim. In fact, they focus more on squats and deadlifting because a safe spine means a slim waist (not sure what the correlation is but I'll take it!). I did used to deadlift but ever since I've been going to the gym by myself, I've been sort of intimidated to do go to the weight rack by myself so I've stopped. Now, I'll have to push myself to go to the rack despite it being filled with huge meaty guys.
I'll also be restricting my strength training workouts to be only one hour long. If I go over, I need to stop. Then I will go straight to doing cardio which I'll be doing even more of to help increase my metabolism and burn more calories throughout the day.

New diet:
I'll be cutting out a lot of carbs. I'll also be counting calories now. I know I said I don't do that in my last video but since I'm actually cutting and trying to get my ideal body, this diet is going to be pretty strict. I've downloaded the MyFitnessPal app to help me keep track of my diet so hopefully I stay on track and continue doing that. I have a habit of forgetting to logging in lol....
I'll also have to drinking more protein shakes which I stopped doing because I thought it made me lose too much weight but it actually helped me.

Anyways, that's what I'm going to be changing! I'm doing this blog post even though most of my followers on Instagram asked for a video once I've finished everything to see the results but I didn't want to leave the people who asked for a blog post behind so here's a quick rundown of what's going to happen.
I'll try to update on Instagram how everything is going! This will honestly probably take me a couple of months to get my final result so please be patient with me but also cheer me on to keep me motivated!
